Herbal Medicine

It is estimated that up to 80% of the world’s population rely on herbal medicinal products as a primary source of healthcare. Throughout human history, herbs have been used to treat and prevent illness. Around 50% of all pharmaceutical drugs have been derived from nature. As a Herbalist, I offer an extensive range of liquid and tablet herbs for many and varied conditions.

Plants produce phytochemicals which help them defend themselves against pathogens and to repel herbivores. It is these phytochemicals that are used to treat the thousands of health conditions that afflict humans and animals.

Our body has transporters that carry these phytochemicals through the blood stream, and receptor cells that allow the phytochemicals into our cells to work their magic.

There are many phytochemicals in each plant and they work synergistically to help heal without side effects. The difference between the natural herbs and the pharmaceutical drugs, many of which have been derived from nature, is that the drugs isolate a single chemical component (and then make a synthetic version), and this leads to side effects, some of which can be severe. By using the herbs and plants as nature intended, the side effects are eliminated.

Herbal medicine is a heavily researched area of medicine and combined with thousands of years of anecdotal evidence on the efficacy of herbs it is a safe and effective form of treatment.

Prescribing herbs has many benefits. The phytochemicals in the herbal plants help relieve symptoms and also work on treating the underlying causes of ill health and disease. They have hundreds of reactions in the body, some of which are …

  • Anti inflammatory
  • Antioxidant
  • Anti anxiety
  • Anti depressant
  • Thyroid restorative
  • Anti asthmatic
  • Antimicrobial
  • Immune enhancing
  • Liver restorative
  • Cancer preventative
  • Antiviral
  • Nervine tonic
  • Cardioprotective
  • The list goes on!

Using herbs to heal the body is Natural Medicine at its best. It is utilising all that nature has given us to enable us to holistically restore health.
